As if Richardson Farms Farm Market in White Marsh wasn't cool enough, they have a free holiday Train Garden this year. It's been set up by Harrison Trains and any donations collected go to the John Hopkins Children's Center.

I've written about this unique farm store before ("Fresh Local Produce and Luscious Plants at Richardson Farms"). Not only can you get great produce, it's become a community destination for meeting for lunch or attending one of their fun events (the spring Easter Egg hunt was so well done).

The train garden is housed in their giant greenhouse filled with a large selection of wonderfully smelly XMas trees for sale. It just oozes Christmas! The highlight of the set up is the Walt Disney World Castle with the iconic monorail making it's rounds every few minutes. Other personal favorites were the 1950s Diner and the band of Hobos camping out next to a box car. Not sure how, but their little pot boiling over the fire jiggled back and forth. The steam engine puffed out real steam and see if you can find Snoopy canoeing with his peeps....

SPECIAL TIP: My Mom and I took my youngest during the week so it wasn't crowded at all. In fact Eamon was able to madly chase the trains around without bothering anyone. We got to chat with the train master who showed us how to switch out the engines and divulged some inside scoop about how often they need to change the batteries in the monorail - 45 mins to be exact.

While you're there you can pick up some fresh farm produce, locally made goodies and of course your Christmas tree! Have fun and Merry Christmas from my family to yours!

alexanders tavern
A few weeks ago I nabbed an amazing deal from Restaurant.com via The Today Show. $500 worth of dining certificates for only $30! Wow! We made our maiden voyage to Alexander's Tavern in the historic waterfront area of Baltimore called  Fell's Point. Tom checked the tavern's score on UrbanSpoon and it was rated 93% so we figured it was a pretty good bet.

K.P. Huber's Farm Stand
K.P Huber's Barns and Greenhouses
Actually, to be fair, I like both places! The larger Huber's stand, K.P. Hubers Produce Farm, is located in Kingsville at the corner of Belair Rd. and Mt. Vista Rd. It's better than ever. In addition to the large selection of produce, they have turned their charming red barns into a gift shop and a green house. They have a pretty good selection of flowers and especially vegetable and herb plants. When I shop I try to purchase what they grow on their own farm, which is directly behind the stand. If they are out of something, say Basil, they will literally go down to the farm and hand pick a fresh bunch for you! Their second location (at the intersection of Philadelphia Road and Bradshaw) Huber's Farm, is smaller but has "Pick Your Own" fields. Right now it's strawberries. In the summer I stop every time I pass to buy the most delicious........

Nutterz Snacks
Have you been to Richardson's Farms yet? Last year they built a brand new market that looks like a mini Cracker Barrel. Inside they sell local veggies, dairy, poultry, bottled dressings and delicious made-on-site peanut butter. This trip I bought a huge bag of fresh Kale for $2. Tom came home with a tub of Capuchino flavored peanut butter and Eamon nabbed 4 Cow Tales and a bag of Bacon flavored Nutterz made right here in Baltimore. While we were shopping, the in-house chef was setting up for one of their monthly cooking classes. That evening's lesson was all about Asparagus. They have a full deli with warm....
