Yesterday afternoon, Tom and I broke one of our golden rules: "Never Eat in an Empty Restaurant!". We learned from experience it's usually a bad sign..... However, after hiking for two hours in Rocks State Park we were so hungry we would have eaten anything, anywhere!
"How about the Gunpowder Lodge?" I suggested. We had been wanting to visit anyway, but kept

alexanders tavern
A few weeks ago I nabbed an amazing deal from Restaurant.com via The Today Show. $500 worth of dining certificates for only $30! Wow! We made our maiden voyage to Alexander's Tavern in the historic waterfront area of Baltimore called  Fell's Point. Tom checked the tavern's score on UrbanSpoon and it was rated 93% so we figured it was a pretty good bet.

While slogging away at our computers the other day, Tom asked me out of the blue if I wanted to go with him to the BMA for a couple of hours. Sure, I love art and even better, there's no entrance fee! Even the main exhibit, Print by Print: Series from Dürer to Lichtenstein, is free! For those who've never been to this local gem in Charles Village right next to Johns Hopkins University

Last week Tom and I were treated to free tickets to see Matthew Sweet ("Girlfriend", "Evengeline") at the Ram's Head Tavern in Annapolis. My Dad's former band manager, Joe Stella, was managing Sweet's "20th Anniversary Girlfriend" tour in addition to working on the Bangles tour (remember "Manic

The Charles Theater
An all time favorite date of ours is to see a movie at the artsy, yet sophisticated, Charles Theater paired with dinner and drinks at the adjoining restaurant, Tapas Teatro (inviting, hip and delicious). Both are located one block north of Penn Station on North Charles Street. On warm nights you can sit outside to eat and watch interesting people come and go -- once I saw a cop let a pretty lady test drive his Segway up and down the street! Incidentally, Tapas Teatro is a sister restaurant to The Helmand. Both are owned by the brother of Hamid Karzai (president of Afghanistan). Small world, huh? The Charles is the place where we saw "Napoleon Dynamite" before anyone else knew he existed and once got scalded by a grumpy moviegoer for......

I tag along with Tom downtown any chance I can. After showing a rental we ended up at Harbor East and chose to eat lunch at Talara, the new Latin restaurant next to the Hilton Garden Inn. It's Zagat rated and got a good score on Urbanspoon. It's really lively in there, with Latin music, bright colors, neon, funky lights and cool paintings. The wait staff were really great to us. Incredibly attentive and intuitive. We brought our young son with us and the bartender knew exactly what size spoon to bring for him. Believe me, that's a big deal when you have a little kid. The food was really yummy. Authentic cuisine, yet still sophisticated. Tom ordered a ....

'Cheers!'
We finally made it to Mr. Rain's Fun House which sits at the top of the American Visionary Arts Museum. Upon arriving I knew we had made a good choice when I heard LCD Sound System playing followed by The Smiths. What a visual feast for the eyes! Large arched window, glass mosaic walls, shiny strips of glass dangling over the bar and colorful art and sculptures everywhere. Our waitress was great and started us off with the most amazing cocktails. I had the "Private Idaho" with organic cherry vodka,...

Federal Hill and Locust Point have changed so much since we lived there in 1989. Key Highway was nominated for "Worst Street in Baltimore" and I think it won! Now it's a haven for high-end condos and townhomes with an awesome waterfront walkway and a steady breeze that makes you feel like you're constantly on vacation. After previewing a gorgeous 1 bedroom foreclosure in the Harborview we stopped for a bite to eat at "The Wine Market" on Fort Avenue. I had seen it, but didn't know what to expect. I thought it would be a wine store with a little bar inside, but it was a lovely

Vino Rosina
Vino Rosina wine bar is near Whole Foods
Tom and I went on a Tuesday night date last night, which was great because no one was around and we found free 3 hrs on street parking on S. Exeter Street! We went down to Harbor East, one of my favorite areas in town, and had a drink at "Vino Rosina" and saw "Hannah" at the Landmark Theaters. I had heard about the new wine bar/restaurant and was curious to check it out. It was really swank yet warm and friendly. The bartender was a funny redheaded lady who knew her stuff. The coolest thing is their homemade...
